Speek Home

We took Speek from an idea on a napkin,
to a vc backed startup with loyal customers.

Speek only had one shot to get it right. The dream was to simplify the conference call. After a good conversation we discussed our product ideas. We thought the conference call should be as easy as typing your name and pressing go. We literally sketched out their interface on a napkin. Everyone loved it. We proceeded to build.

Their compeditors have bloated, cluttered interfaces. Simplicity drove everything. The UX is basically a series of "calls to action" to pass the user through the bare minimum of fields to place a call. We didn't want users to be given a million options. The core product is connecting calls, that's what users will come there to do, and that's what Speek should focus on. We think it's better to do one thing amazingly well, than do many things poorly.

“Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
-Steve Jobs

Speek was building their minimal viable Product, so we wanted to set them up so they could continue on with the same codebase after their initial round of funding, so we set them up with a flexible MVC framework, and popular libraries on the front for a responsive layout and visual effects.

Within a few months of launching the beta, Speek was able to land their first round of funding. Speek went on to be a game changer in the way people confrence call. They were recently hailed as “one of the most innovative startups at SXSW”.
